Valley View offers a variety of classes for preschool age trough high school and college for both boys and girls. Classes include tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, tumbling and modern. We offer recreational classes as well as competition teams.
Our students have gone on to dance at the Olympics and Super Bowl. Many have been dance squad and cheerleaders at the collegiate level and for professional sports teams.
Valley View students have also had professional careers such as the Artistic Director of Chicago Tap Theater, university instructors, guest teachers in Europe and with dance companies in Las Vegas.
Shirley Guffey began Valley View School of Dance in 1972. She danced many years professionally and toured with U.S.A. shows before taking up her teaching career. She specialized in controlled acrobatics and ballet. She was a founding member of Mid America Tumbling Society and a charter member of N.A.D.A. Shirley passed away in 2008. She was genuinely interested in each and every student, always had a positive attitude and was an inspiration to others. Her legacy lives on through our students.
Liza Guffey is the director of Valley View School of Dance. Liza has been teaching dance and tumbling for over 30 years. She has studied under world renowned teachers and coaches such as Shirley Weaver, Tatiana Dokoudovska, Harding Dorn, James Rozanas, Dan Yancy and Mary Beth Webber (Professionally known as Brucetta). Liza’s professional ability led to her apperance on several TV Shows and locally at Starlight Theatre. She founded M.A.T.S. (Mid-America Tumbling Society) in the mid 1970’s. Her specialty is controlled acrobatics, and many of her students have achieved high awards in the gymnastic field.
Many of our teachers began their dance and tumbling studies at Valley View School of Dance, and have returned to share their passion. Our teachers have studied across the country and around the world and many have received accolades in their respective areas of concentration.
